Prominent Pickering Locations from the 1500’s to 1800’s
It seems as if our family traveled far and wide in the early years, however if you travel from Thelwall to Daresbury to Crowton to Frodsham, the entire trip is only 21 miles. Our early Pickering families resided for hundreds of years within this area until the early 1700’s when William Pickering [1782-1856] was born in the tiny village of Bradley and eventually became Consul to Mecklenburg, Prussia and a wealthy corn merchant. He had his business at 14 Henry Street Liverpool, and his home at Derby Breck. His younger brother, Peter was born at Sutton Mill near Frodsham and eventually settled in Muggau, Prussia near Danzig.
William’s son, Charles William Harrison Pickering [1815-1881] built his mansion, “Montebello” in Wallasey, which is shown on the tip of the peninsula on the top map. He was a Liverpool corn merchant . From there his eleven Pickering children settled in homes scattered around the world with a few settling in the U.S.
