The area adjacent to the River Weaver tow path, near Dutton Lock and Dutton Viaduct has been known as “Pickering’s”, “Pickering’s Lock” , “Pickering’s de Boat” or “Pickering’s O’ the Boat”. A portion of the 1721 River Weaver map shows Pickerings Boat clearly defined.
